Case Study: Reducing Lead Times by 40% for European EV Battery Fasteners
How Taily Metal leveraged multi-station cold heading to deliver 500,000 custom EV battery bolts with ±0.02mm precision in just 15 days.
The Challenge: High Volume, Tight Deadline
A leading European Tier-1 automotive supplier was facing a critical delay. They needed 500,000 units of custom Grade 10.9 high-strength bolts with a specific Dacromet finish. Their regular European supplier quoted a 6-week lead time, which would have stalled their EV battery assembly line.
The Taily Metal Solution
Taily Metal's engineering team analyzed the drawing and immediately recommended a high-speed multi-station cold heading process. Unlike CNC machining, which is slow and wasteful, our cold heading machines can produce up to 150 pieces per minute with near-zero material waste.
Tungsten Carbide Tooling
To maintain the ±0.02mm tolerance over a half-million piece run, we used custom tungsten carbide dies. This ensured that the first and the 500,000th bolt were dimensionally identical.
The Result: 15-Day Delivery
We completed the entire production run and QC testing in 12 days. Including air freight, the parts reached the client's facility in 15 days—a 40% reduction in lead time compared to their previous supplier.
